Boondocking, definition: Places you can park the RV for one night or a week or a month that is allowed by authorities, store managers etc..

Walmart and cracker barrel are good candidates but typically only overnight and permission is important. I use a site called RV parky and it lists all the boondock places near you at any given time. It also says things like the cracker barrel manager in this city forbids parking so move on. There is always Flying J's and any truck stop. The only problem with Flying J's and truck stop is you are nestled in between 200 idling 18 wheelers and prison level security lighting. Its functional but not a good nights sleep. Then there's the gray areas. My favorite is pulling into a state park area and pretending you got there late and you are just waiting for the gate to be unlocked. After sleeping you pull out at 6:00 am before the park ranger gets to work and no foul, no expense. Rest areas are OK sort of. Overnight parking is probably not officially OK but if the staff doesn't care its all good. Sometimes you get a internet tip that certain rest areas have no problem with RVs but frown on professional drivers staying all night. We have joined an RV club called Escapees and its sub club, Days end directory. Days end charges about 18 dollars a year that gives you all the best boondock places for every city in the county. You download the list but you don't share it with anyone else because that's like pirating info and they haven't paid for the secret handshake.
