Casper landed on India’s birthday Friday July 29th and we stayed at a KOA to celebrate her birthday. I didn’t want her to have to boondock (have to do without) on her birthday. I wanted to review the different comfort levels in the RV lifestyle. When there are no services at all, boon docking, we are still fully self-sufficient because all the basics on the RV operate at 12 volts DC. The refrigerator, heat and water heater work on propane. The water pump is 12v. and we haul 55 gallons of potable water which to my surprise is over 500 pounds. We can be pretty content at this level for a while and if there is sun our solar panels charge the battery all day and we watch TV or DVDs by engaging the inverter which creates 120 volts from the 12v battery. The next level is a campsite with electric only. Sometimes they are only 30 amps which means only one air conditioner / or only half the baseboard heaters. The next level is with 50 amps which can run everything and a water hook up. Here you can have full heat/ AC, and use the microwave our washer/dryer. We switch the refrigerator and water heater over to 120 volts. The electricity comes with the site, we buy the propane. At this level you still have to watch your sewage level indicators and hook up and go dump your tanks every 2 or 3 days which is a bit of a chore. The KOA level is called a full hook up and it has everything and a sewer pipe and cable TV and WI FI. Boon docking is free and KOA is about 55 dollars. We generally spend about 0 to 25 per night.
I told India her birthday present was a 50 amp service, water and “SEWAGE ” .internet, dinner and a movie.
We got settled in it was a nice little place just a little uneventful because it was all just gravel and not a lot of nature around just kind of predictable. KOA’s are fine but there a little bit sterile. We went to dinner and a movie had a nice visit.
