The next day we left and went to Casper Wyoming and headed to a boondock called the Parking lot at the rear of the Bighorn Sheep museum in Dubois Wyoming.
The reason we picked Dubois is because it was 3 hours away from Casper and it really is the only thing around but there was appealing to me on the boondock PDF. We got there about an hour before dusk and even when we got near Dubois we found out they were fighting big fires up on the hill. Some of state campgrounds and such were closed and taken over by the firefighters. Dubois is a very small town about the size of the business section of Burgaw. There were 1200 firefighters sleeping in cars and tents everywhere you looked. Our quiet little boondock site wasn’t so available as it was a staging area for heavy equipment and fire jumpers. I spoke to one of the firefighters and told him how much we appreciated their hard work. I asked if we can park in the park for the night. He said he had no real authority but he felt like asking forgiveness would be better than asking permission. I sheepishly found a spot as far out of their way as I could and as I engaged our slide outs it was about dark. I was willing to leave out the next morning at the crack of dawn but as I talked to a couple of firefighters that were in beach chairs, they said to relax and were really not too concerned about it all. The next morning India and I went to a church service at an Episcopal Church.
We had lunch and I suggested we do the mandatory wandering the aisles of the local hardware store. I get the feeling this is less exiting for India than for me. We went back to our dirt field and gathered up Savannah. People that sleep till noon usually miss out on the whole church / lunch thing. We walked over to the Bighorn sheep center which was a nice visit and we learned that there were 4 types of sheep beyond just the most recognizable one that UNC uses.
