We were in Raleigh and I saw something in the news that Hillary was going to speak at the fairgrounds. We lean liberal but moderate is a better description. We thought it would be exciting to go so we signed up and I also wanted to expose Savannah to the political world in a real way.

While we were at the Rally the truck started having a weird behavior. The truck ran well at idle but in drive or reverse it would try to leave like a race horse and you had to hold it back by pressing hard on the brake pedal. It would be revved up and when put back into park it would put out a big puff of black smoke which made me feel like a big polluter. What made it worse is I was among all liberals in Prius's or bicycles and here comes Randall in his cattle hauling truck blowing thick black smoke everywhere. I I imagined hey assumed I was a Republican infiltrator in my big ol redneck truck and their facial expressions conveyed they quietly didn’t like me or my polluting machine. When we got back to camp I called Tom Sessions my diesel guy in Wilmington.

Tom sessions

I have a guy in Hampstead name Tom sessions. The name of his business is Sessions Motorsports. He's out off Sloop Point Road and he is so busy I don't think he could ever need another customer but I wanted to talk good about him all the same. He is just the most wonderful diesel mechanic/Cummins guy but he is also the Viper Guru of the whole southeast. People call him from all over the country to either fly in or whatever to get there Vipers up to the max for a race or whatever. I didn't know much about vipers but they're a small car that has the curves of a fighter jet and the go even faster if they are candy apple red. At about 200 miles an hour and you feel like you going 45 not that I would probably go that fast but they are incredible and he knows all about them.

I called Tom and he diagnosed the problem with my truck transmission over the phone in a few sentences. He said my torque converter was bad which is an internal pert of the automatic transmission. At first he said sometimes it take these parts are not readily available and it could take about a week to get them. I told him I would get on the road and head to Wilmington and I was glad he was able to fit me right in. I told him about my problem at 11 am and he had the part in his shop at like 7 p.m that night and then there was this other fancy part ( flex plate) that he brought in from Colorado and it was there at 10 a.m the next day.,23 hours after our initial conversation. I had driven to his shop and he started working on the truck until about 11 at night and was done by around noon and I was able to get on back to Raleigh. Even know I had to give him a chunk of money it was such a pleasure to be working with a guy who cared so much about my situation. Having said that I did want to point out the that has one weakness. If he ever decides that he can't do a job or too busy instead of saying so, he just goes ghost. He won't pick up the phone, he won't return your texts or emails. He just ceases to exist. it bothered me a while back when I needed him but I think I think I figured out what his deal is. He's just about the nicest guy you'll ever know and if he answers the phone he can't say no. So ghosting is his way of handling it. Its not a good way of running a business but he has so much demand for his services it has no affect on his profits. Bottom line if you got a Cummins Diesel or Viper please see Tom for your problem. You might be on a one month waiting list because he's just like Mr God of all internal combustion.

I needed a place to sleep in Wilmington while Tom had the truck and all I could think of was one of my best friends Ken , in Castle Hayne. I know he has an open door policy but I needed to ask permission prior to going by his house. I called and texted him many times but couldn't get through. Later I found out his phone had a smashed screen that day. He usually gets home around 8 pm from work so when I went by at 9 pm and he still wasn't home I assumed he was out of town. I let myself in and crashed on his couch. At around 10 pm he pulled up and I was a surprise. I had to try to explain myself and he was a bit weird ed out by finding me at his house on the sofa unannounced but we go way back and soon I was accepted as a guest and we watched the Daily show or something but I knew I has stretched the limits of what friends do and I asked for his understanding and he was good just initially a little surprised.

Even know I had to give Tom a chunk of money, this transmission event was around 1800.00, it was such a pleasure to be working with a guy who cared so much about my situation.
