We picked up Savannah and headed towards Charleston just a 2-night stop. We wanted to utilize the Francis Marion National Forest for a Boondock. I nosed around a little bit and parked the rig for a while at a parking lot. We just drove around looking for what I call a good boondock spot. I found a little maintained road that kind of just came off the highway which cut through the national forest. One spot just looked great although there was a gate and a warning. I assumed it was more of a suggestion. I thought how often do they really use it? I mean really so we parked there and we were happy as a clam. We went to the store or just have to dinner but there was a note on our door and it had a business card for the forest ranger. He was letting us know you really need to move your rig and you have to do that right away.
I called him and he mentioned that there was a place a few miles away where it was okay to boondock. He just reminded us you just cannot block a gate. We went ahead and packed up slid in and moved the rig to that second place and spent the night there. It was a lesson that we have put to use over years and we know what the rules are better now.
