We boondocked at Maximo Park boat ramp (7 ramps) 27.711718, -82.682498 34th St. & Pinellas Point Dr. S. St. Petersburg, Florida 33711

Our next stop on the west coast of Florida would be St. Petersburg. We wanted to visit the Salvador Dali Art Museum. I also have a friend named John Grimm who I had done a little work in Wilmington. He owned a nursery with all the water pumps and electrical needs. Some years back he and Dee his wife moved to Sarasota Florida. I gave him a call to see if they were going to be home a few days in advance. We decided to have some lunch in Sarasota. We decided to meet near a Walmart so I could drop the rig. The Walmart I picked wasn't very easy on big rigs so I just kind of rode around until I found something. I saw a church that had a large parking lot. We met there we followed them to a lunch place they knew about. We just kind of caught and we had become good friends over time. He’s also friends with the builder named Dominic. He’s the guy that’s rebuilding our house from the water pipe break. After lunch, we headed towards St. Petersburg. Using my Savannah Ga. method. We found a boondock possibility at a public marina boat ramp. It was very pretty I find whenever we're doing stuff like this we find it is especially smart to get there right at dusk. It seems that's when people don't care and the public officials are off work. We settled in behind an old-growth palm tree and had a good night's sleep. The next morning I guess around paid 9 am the public works people started kind of stirring and I asked them if I could park there today and they said well it's fine you know just so you don't stay overnight. I said okay and then I disconnected because I was going to take the truck up to the Salvador Dali Museum. That got their eyebrows raised and all of the sudden there feeling not so much. You can't just drop your rig and leave all day. I said thank you, no problem. We headed out and looked for a large parking lot for the day.

When I was talking about this trip to my brother-in-law Mike, he said you need to check out the Salvador Dali Museum when you're in Florida. I'm glad he said it because It would never have even occurred to me to stop. We went towards the museum around 10 am or noon and we knew that the RV was going to be cumbersome. I found a Walmart that was near the museum but wasn't terribly RV-friendly. I found a vacant parking lot right across the street and that was much easier to drop the RV there. We took off and went to the museum and even here parking had become a problem because its quite popular these days. We found a parking meter and I didn't know what to do because the one-meter available said it didn't take quarters. It didn't take a debit card either. I drove away and went towards the museum. Things turned out pretty good. I saw a really large parking lot advertised as free and they provided a free shuttle to the museum.

The price was right and we proceeded to the museum. I think it was about $20 per person which may seem a little stiff but it's an extraordinary art collection. I thought I knew a little bit about Salvador Dali but I learned so much more about his life and he's just a cool guy. I thoroughly enjoyed it and learned so much I will put a link to the museum and maybe you can look at some of his paintings.
