#137 Roswell Bottomless Lakes State Park Roswell NM

When I saw that Roswell was in our path I got a kind of a kick out of it. All I could think of is the teen drama show Roswell that I’d been streaming.

Fun fact, whenever people first found the area call bottomless lakes you might want to know how in the world they named it that. How do they know that they're bottomless? As it turns out the Cowboys were the ones that discovered it and they took as many ropes as they could muster tied them together and lowered them slowly into the lake. They tried to find out the depth but since their longest ropes never touched the bottom it must be bottomless.

I figure people in Roswell spend more time at PTA meetings, little league games, and working at the salt factory than UFO searches. We don’t live there so we had to go to the UFO Museum.

It was perfectly interesting. They made a pretty good case that it was more like a weather balloon rather than aliens.

I tend not to be convinced that area 51 is the secret storage of alien corpses. I try to stay with the Carl Sagan approach. It says that all stars potentially have planets. Since there are billions of stars there are many billions of planets in their orbit. Why wouldn't there be something out there?

The State Park was kind of pretty because New Mexico can be kind of bleak. As we went down a windy road all I saw was a dry lake bed and I thought that it was all dried up. We kept on going and then a little bit more water up appeared as we entered the state park. Once you get there the water level was significant. I was suitable for swimming, boating and playing or just looking at. It was a nice place to be because all I want to do is sit up there in the easy chair and look at the water.

It was just a first come first and the waterfront sites were occupied. The next day somebody left and we moved across the way. Now I was able to sit and gawk at the water. Roswell was not that exhilarating but it was fun to visit a place so famous.
