Pie town New Mexico has one store with lots of pies and that’s the whole town. It has a population of about 20 people and it's about 500 feet long on the main road. We went towards pie town based on a blip on free campsite.net.

As we left Socorro we passed something on the way about halfway called the very large array. It is a series of probably 30 or so extremely large radio telescope receivers. For all I know there is a tour but as we passed by they were closed for the day.

I thought it was cool that this was the site where they made a movie named Contact. Jody Foster played a scientist who had created a dialogue with alien life through time travel.

We were kind of looking for a Boondock in the town of Pie Town. I guess they just meant a parking lot. I saw an RV park and that seemed pretty appealing because we had already been dry camping for two nights and that’s plenty.

We pulled in and so forth in and got settled. We met and talked a little to a nice couple that was bike riding all over the country for a month or so. They were tent camping and just happy to have the showers and laundry there on site.

All we did at pie town was get some sleep and we went and bought some pies next door. There was also a diner which we enjoyed. Although the pies were smaller than normal, and a little overpriced, they were delicious. Besides, it was pie town, you got to buy a pie. I think I read the way this whole thing started as it was called pioneer town back when people were just passing through in covered wagons. At some point, it went from Pioneer town to the nickname PI Town. In the twenties, an apple pie business flourished. There is a pie festival these days on the second Saturday in September. It was fun to visit such a unique place. Pie town was the only town of any real size between Socorro and Petrified forest and it was pretty small.
