We were filling up with fuel and I started talking to a local fellow down in Richfield, he mentioned Otter Creek was a nice place to go and also Antimony UT. As we left capital reef, we could get to Bryce Canyon which is on my list of places to go. The owner of the RV park said you can get there via The Grand Escalante. Once again something I had never heard of but it would appear that it is very scenic and you are riding on the ridge all the Continental Divide. I assume the road is probably not much bigger than two lanes. I believe it just drops off on the left and to the right for a thousand feet which is kind of creepy. I was told you just have to do it. Since we're having problems with overheating and throttle position sensor I felt as if I had to go the safer route. I would like to do it but probably in a vehicle, not in an RV.
This seems to cause another problem because Bryce Canyon has elevations of 9000 feet and with all these problems with overheating, I just had to let it go. We had been there before but anyway what a drag. We left out and went the more conservative way with fewer hills to a place called Otter Creek State Park.
We went to the state park and ask what the prices were and it was about 25 or $30 but she said they were no vacancy. All they could offer us was dry camping and I thought why to pay for a boondock. I asked the Ranger if there was any dispersed camping around. She pointed up there at the top of the hill at what looks like a vault toilet and she said you can camp anywhere up there. I said well thank you so much. I went up that way and disconnected the camper and went on a bit of an exploration of all of the places she pointed at. None had access to the lake. I had remembered seeing some people boondocking down by a lake as we were on the way to the state park. I went down there and it was a BLM site.
It was basically lakefront property for free and I so happy with this option. I went back and got the camper and settled in for two nights.
Later on, that night we went down to “the” diner and enjoyed that. There was some mention by a guy at the gas station in Richfield that you need to have the best burger in the world in Antimony. The next day so we did and it was the best burger and they had Wi-Fi so that was a good thing.
