#170 Baker beach equestrian site north of Florence

Two hours North was called Baker Beach.

I found it on freecamp.net and it was a very affordable rate of about $5 a night or something like that. It was a boondock equestrian site.

Equestrian normally means freshwater but there wasn’t any this time but it was a pretty neat/safe place to camp.

It was part of the national forest system.

We looked for a hike towards the dunes as it was very close to the ocean.

We went about a fourth of a mile to get to the dunes. More and more it seemed like we were on another planet. Desolate and all sand with nothing else in sight. When we finally got to the top of the hill we could see the ocean below. These were the 50-foot type dunes. We went down and it was kind of offensively harsh down there.

We just wanted to come and go hang out at the beach but the wind was blowing sideways at like 25 miles an hour.

It wasn't cold but it was at least cool like 65 or 70 degrees.

You know the tricky part is when the wind's blowing sideways like that hard it's picking up sand, so your kind of getting sandblasted.

It's just like one of those times when you're trying to have a nice family time with the beach and it's more like torture.

We trudged our way back up to the campground and just messed around and stuff but this was more just a place to sleep nothing much incredible to report here. I did enjoy the boondock itself because we were surrounded by nature. Even if it wasn’t perfect it wasn’t some big box asphalt parking lot.
