I saw a Fairgrounds and emailed to ask about availability. I do this when I don’t see a state or federal park in the area. Fairgrounds never advertise that there are RV sites. I have found if you ask if possible they will say yes. Looked on the internet around for fairgrounds and I found one called the 4-H Fairgrounds in Pittsfield Mass.
Here is an email I sent. Hi Angelica, we are in an RV traveling and will be in your area in about a week. We were wondering if you have an RV hook up and if so, what would the cost be. We would stay 2 nights. If water is off, we could bring our own but would need electric and a dump station or sewer.
Let me know by email or text and call at 910 232 0455

Thank you for reaching out to us. I have included Scott Robinson in this email because he would be the one to be able to help you know what’s possible a
at the fairgrounds.
Happy Trails,
Angelica
Thank you for your inquiry.
The water is in the process of being turned off. We have no dump station. We do have electricity.
The fee would be $25 per night.
If you’re still interested please let me know

Our facilities are located on Utility Drive in Pittsfield. I will meet you at the grounds to give you a permission slip to be there and collect the fee. I don't know if there will be water available. Please fill it up before arriving.
When you arrive please call me.

I'm pretty sure we would still like to stay for two nights. It will be in the middle of next week. Maybe if you have a faucet, we could at least fill our tanks there. If you let me know I'll be sure to fill it before I get there. I can check in with you at your office or how would I pay.
When I found this place, I didn't realize it was the home of Herman Melville author of Moby Dick, and I significant Amish community. I like both of these and visited Melville's home. You can pay 25 to go inside or just ride by. We did the drive-by.

Herman Melville's home
Also had a nice little dinner at the coolest little hole-in-the-wall type diner.
It's just one of those little places that don't look like much of anything from the street. Once inside the food is good, the people are nice and it's pretty affordable.
Scott met me there and gave me the lay of the land. I might have parked underneath of giant covered area but I could see I wouldn't fit. I stayed just outside of it and they had a 20-amp service there. It was directly under a 100 amp panel with only one 20 amp Breaker out so I decided to fix it on that.
I told Scott told him I was an electrician and to show appreciation I would improve the hook-up. He gave me access to the electrical panel room down below and changed it to a nice 50-amp receptacle. It was served by a 30-amp wire and it was protected at 30. At least you could hook up a 50-amp cord to it and of course, it would trip at 30. It was still a major improvement.
He was happy I was happy everybody was happy.
I felt as if I had found another quick friend. He said you’re welcomed to come back sometime if I wanted to.
Across the way, there was the wastewater treatment plant. Scott said they would let you dump your tanks for free. If you were a commercial person like dumping 20,000 gallons of sewage, they made you pay. For regular people like me, it was free. I went into the office to sign something and show my ID. It seemed they had to account for anyone using the dump station. That was fine with me.
