Salt Springs was a pleasure. We got it for half off the price because it's a federal Recreation Area.
It was just a one-night thing mainly because they didn't have any vacancy. We checked it out and I didn't see the Salt Springs themselves. It was a full hookup and I wouldn't hesitate to stay here some time. I asked about reserving a site for next year and they said it could only be done 6 months in advance so it would not be on my to-do list this month. We were looking for a restaurant and very little came up. We saw a Subway 10 miles away and it was an interesting setup. It wasn’t a stand-alone Subway but they were tucked into the back corner of a convenience store gas station. It not exciting now but at the time they had just begun selling wraps. We both tried one and they were great. I tend to stay with the traditional because it seems you get more bang for the same money. As we left Salt springs the next day we would ride through the Rodman recreation area. At this point, we were at the northern boundary of Ocala National forest. Rodman was also federal and mostly grassy areas in a field. We rode around and there had been some flooding so there were certain sections and we couldn't go to but plenty to look at.
As we rounded the circle there were 12 or so sites that had a hill as a backstop and facing the river. I think this is where I would want to be. These sites had water and electricity and an overlook to the river and it was a nice view. It's kind of neet to sit and watch the barges go by.
Whenever I'm able to ask a person staying there for an opinion about the place and there was a fella that was willing to share. He said it was a fine campground. He offered that in the winter even though it's Florida the ones that are facing that river get kind of chilly because the wind comes racing down the gorge or whatever. He said it's a little bit cold to suit him in some of the winter months.

I figured it looks like a nice enough place unfortunately there was like zero Internet so that was an issue. It was about 15 minutes into town so that wouldn't be the end of it all. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here you just have to make sure you do your downloads if you want to stream anything.
Being able to talk on the phone and having internet does matter but it's not a deal-breaker if it's a pretty place. It seemed like a perfectly wonderful place to stay for a few days but might be a hard sell for 14 days.
Salt Springs is located 35 miles east of Ocala (I-75), 60 miles west of Daytona Beach (I-95), and 95 miles north of Orlando, Florida. Mon Apr 09, 2018 (1 night) full hook up
