As we proceeded North, we saw a state park in South Carolina called Santee.
I kept thinking it was missing something. I thought it was Santee Cooper or something but that must be some other place. It appears that it's a very large river and people like coming here as it was a pretty big complex.
As we got settled in, we noticed that it had a lot of dirt roads and a little tight here and there for a big rig but not anything impossible.
I noticed that it's right on I-95 and on either side of the exit is a lot of business and lots of retailers and then it falls off quickly to rural and almost nothing else.
It's funny at one point I thought maybe I would take in one of the recovery meetings about town.
I looked online and within 20 miles there was only one meeting that met once a week. I figured I would pick that one since today was the day. I followed the GPS to where the meeting was supposed to be about three miles down the road past the I-95 exit.
I kept passing by the coordinates of where I was supposed to be and I didn't see anything more than residential homes.
Finally, at the GPS point, I saw a structure all boarded-up. It was an old barn turned garage sort of thing. Most of the time you find a meeting at a church or school or something. It had fallen on hard times and was kind of abandoned but somewhere on the side, there was an old AA symbol.
I guess everybody either got drunk or everybody got sober and they didn't need this place anymore. I know that when there are no meetings people must be using counseling and such at their local church.
I'm sure this is better than nothing and I'm sure people will find their way but AA works best for me. It makes you grateful for when you're in a more populated area where meetings are falling out of trees five times a day.
We ended up at a nice little pull-through and Santee was one of those places that there's not much to say. It was a nice pleasant place to visit and I guess they stay pretty busy in the summer because people like to fish and ski and have a big-time on the water. The repair I had made to my front steps was getting loose. I figured now that I have a welder I would go all Vulcan god on it. My efforts paid off and once again I was proud of my jackleg welder skills.
