This stop would end our trek north to our camp hosting the interview. We thought it would be nice to pause at this Boondock and that way we could go to the state park at Jordan Lake the next day. We had done all we needed to do and managed to arrive by April 16 which was our agreement with Ranger Erin the volunteer coordinator. Our visit with her would be the job interview for the campground host. The people at this boondock were very friendly and they enjoyed living in Pittsboro. They lived maybe 4 miles away out in the country but still closer to Pittsboro than anywhere.
Kurt the owner mentioned that they were from somewhere up in the northern Virginia area they had a pretty big house up there but it was slow to sell. They found this pretty piece of land down here and decided to relocate. I told him how we were also selling our house and so wished to have that chapter closed.
The only negative about our stay here is not big enough to complain about. Bert had to stay indoors. First of all, it's his property. If there is anything that doesn’t suit me it can’t matter as I am just a one-night guest. There were no surprises he had stated what to expect on the web page. He mentioned that pets are allowed but not outdoors and or roaming free. If you had a dog it would have to be on a leash and your cat can't just run around wild.
This broke Bert’s heart because he wants to run around and do what he wants to do. We’ve tried but he cannot understand the word no.
His preferred phase is yes, your majesty. He had to stay in the rig for I guess 12 hours or more and it almost killed him. He begged non-stop until he got laryngitis.
That made it less than wonderful for us.
I spent a fair amount of time outdoors talking to Kurt about this and that in you know the price of eggs in China.
He mentioned music on Friday nights down at Bynum.
This little town may have people living there in houses but the only piece of commercial real estate was an old community general store. It had been restored as kind of a museum/ community center. It had a stage and they did music on Friday nights. Later in our story, we went there several times to listen to local bands.
I also told Kurt I was an electrician and said let me know if you ever needed anything. Later he sent me a message to see if I could hook up a power pole for him at a separate property even further out in the country. I mentioned after our interview I would be in Wilmington cleaning the garage and such. I told him I had one in my hoarding area I wasn't going to use anymore. I brought it back up with me and sold it to him and installed it out there at his second house in the woods. He and some friends had bought the house as an investment. There was an old trailer they were going to haul off or bulldoze. They just wanted the land it was setting on.
We left the next morning and we thanked Kurt and his bride repeatedly for their hospitality.
