Hurricane Florence was on the way and the staff told us we had to leave Jordan lake on Wednesday. We went over to the Raleigh Fairgrounds to get ready for the storm to hit around Friday. The fairgrounds were open and everything was fine there but we couldn't go back to Crosswinds because of the storm and packed up everything.
I have no way of knowing what would happen next but I just figured we would be done with the storm on Saturday and go back to Crosswinds on Sunday. We assumed we would begin hosting again until about Thanksgiving.
Well, the storm was getting closer and you can feel the wind in the rain picking up a bit. I talked to my little sister Cheryl who lives in Winston-Salem and she said why don't you come on down here. I said I don't think it will be so bad in Raleigh but she said why don't you come on down here twice. She kind of wanted to visit so I thought what the heck.
There was a little drama with my elder sister who I care about but you know sometimes we don't agree on everything. She insisted that we go down to Wilmington and get Savannah and rescue her from the storm. I had talked to Savannah quite a bit about the whole situation. I knew it wasn't like she was Oceanfront and I knew she was in a modern apartment complex built to modern standards so I didn't feel like she was in any grave danger.
I figured as long as she's not in any real danger then she is welcomed to ride it out and learn how to deal with all this stuff. She has just got away from us and was in her very first apartment so I let it go.
They are over 18 and legal adults you got to kind of pull back a little bit.
After a day or two at the fairgrounds, we headed towards Tanglewood which is where we normally stay, and visited for about a week
