Slave quarters for Appomattox courthouse
James River was our next stop and I picked it because it was 2 hours away and it’s a state park. I don't have any complaints about it. It was kind of off the beaten path but everything we would do for the next two weeks would be anyway. When we saw the park sign you still had a little more driving to do. We went down a tiny little road following the river again for about 5 miles. I noticed on the map it was fairly close to Appomattox. After we got settled in the next day we went to Appomattox Court House to take pictures and be tourists. For people who need a little quick history, this is where Lee surrendered to Grant in the Civil War.

I will offer a minimal rant here. Being from North Carolina I am supposed to be pro south. When it comes to the Civil War the South were a bunch of idiots who wanted to destroy the United States, I do not support that in any way. During rallies, you have all the people who bow down to their great grandpappy that died. To me, they were stupid for rushing off to fight for an unjust cause. I don't see why they honor that with statues. Could it be you want to scare the Sam Hell out of all the existing black people that you tried to enslave? I used to think I would avoid everything Civil War because it bothers me so. I think now when I go by these places it helps me remember and try to never let it happen again. Sadly, there are a lot of Americans who love the culture of hate and would enjoy overthrowing the government again. I hope to always be on the side of love and fight against white supremacy. It was good to visit the Courthouse and grounds. There was a self-led tour inside and out and they noted in many locations where slaves would have slept and worked.
I asked several local people which way we should go towards Covington Virginia. Some people said to go the long way some people said take highway 60 initially but get over to 29 north pretty soon and I went with that.
So once again nothing bad to say about James River State Park except that it's a bit remote but it's pretty and that's all we ask I know it's just a part of the trip.
