#287 Georgia Veterans State Park

Georgia Veterans State Park is a state park located on Lake Blackshear in Crisp County, west of Cordele. We find interesting places just by looking. This place was 2 hours down the road from Stone Mountain. I found it on campendium.

I called and mentioned that I am not a Georgia veteran and they said that would be okay and it was only about $25 ish and that was very nice.

It was definitely out in the country but not too far off of I-75 maybe 10 miles. We got out that way and really couldn’t tell exactly where the camping area was.

We saw a visitor center with some campsites around but it looked closed and just for tent camping. Eventually, I called the main desk and they walked me through how to get to their location. When I got it there it was more like a resort hotel-type place with rooms, a golf course, and a night restaurant. I thought I guess this is the right place. You walk in and register they point you towards a very low-key beautiful little campground that's kind of a typical RV camping with full hookups. You would never find it if you didn't know where you were going but it was nice. It was kind of a gated community as you have to punch a keypad after dark to get in. It gave you the feeling of being secure or safe.

Our time here was fairly uneventful. I spend a lot of time fixing off stuff and organizing all of our gear. In this case, I was removing a toilet from the second bath that I knew I would not want to use.

I had decided this second bathroom would make a much better storage facility than a bathroom that we would rarely use.

I offered the newly removed toilet to one of our RV neighbors and he gave me a small space heater as a thank you.

It was still kind of winter and cold and so we were glad to have electric heat. We went into town and had dinner one night. We filled our propane tanks just to be sure we didn't run out. We stayed two nights and moved on down the road.
