John Pennekamp is at Key Largo and it was a little bit on the cool side for going snorkeling. I'm sure that will change in the summer but the waters are like 70° it's just a little cool. I’ve heard good things about it so maybe we should do it on the way out of town.
I'm just killing time until April so we got the site for two nights. You turn left when you first get to the Keys off the Mainland Highway.
I was staring at the GPS instead of knowing where I was going. I should have taken a right.
After about six miles I finally basically gave up and turned around and realized I was going the wrong way.
I think one of the reasons why the GPS got confused is the waters all over the area of Key Largo is a marine protected area under the jurisdiction of John Pennekamp. That means a thousand acres of water that's protected so the GPS thought the park was a dot out in the middle of the Atlantic.
We got turned around and headed the right way and then after we passed the mainland road it was only about three miles up on the left.
We entered the park and found our site and once again it was a gated community. We got parked into our RV site and got settled. I have no complaints about it except no actual view of anything you're near a lot of water but there were no water views at the RV area.
In a way, it's just kind of swampy and mangrove e. It's okay because you're at the Keys and you're just moments from a coral reef. The actual conditions are a little rocky in a little bit swampy.
We stayed there two nights and mostly just to rest stop on the way to the next place with being near Marathon.
