Several years before we started our RV trip we were coming back from Savannah Georgia on one of our honeymoon weekends. We imagined what it might be like to RV someday. I looked at an ap and it said up ahead 20 miles ahead there's a natural area that has RV camping. Since we were on Highway 17 going north it was right on our way home. it was called Buck Hall Recreation Area was a federally operated RV camping area. It was close to the Francis Marion National Forest which is a really big swath of land north of Charleston. We went in and took a look and it was a really large open grassy field right on the intercoastal where you can put a boat in or fish off a dock. It had water and electricity and a low nightly rate maybe $12. If you have a senior card that makes it like 6 bucks which are just amazing.

We spoke to a couple sitting out in their beach chairs and asked if they thought this was a nice place to stay. They said that they come here once or twice a year and they enjoy it. The place was so laid-back and gave us hope for the future. Fast forward 2 years any time we are near the area we stay at Buck Hall. Going south towards Florida we have stayed at the Francis Marion National Forest for free for a little bit and then we would come over here for some civilization. This was about our third visit and we stayed here for two nights. I had a nice visit just kind of vegging on the intercoastal. We had been doing a lot of errands up in NC so it was nice to be done and on our way to Florida. We went into Charleston a little bit to have some dinner wanted to have some southern comfort food. There is a little restaurant a few miles north called the McClellanville diner that we always go by for shrimp and grits and such.
