I wanted to go to Greenville because it was a pivot point to check out BB King's museum and just kind of wander around a little bit, plus it was 2 hours away. We found a Boondock on the Days Inn directory that was a casino right on the river. Initially, I parked at an off-street public parking area just because the rig is big and it was a little unclear what was it like up there.

Where I parked I saw this sign. I had only known of one store which was in Wilmington

From a glance, I could see that it was a steep concrete embankment which is really like a levy going down to the river. It was a really steep angle and come to find out I wasn't really at the casino. This area was more like a wide boat ramp. We disconnected and I drove the truck up that way. I spoke to a manager to get permission to park and they said it was fine. The main parking lot was a little congested. Down below was another parking lot and had a barricade but it looked very inviting. I said could I park over there and then they said they didn't care but it wasn’t their property. The police had barricaded that off and I had to talk to them. I went by the police station and nearby I saw a patrol car and I just asked them and they said it's fine with us. I went back and told the manager so we moved in and got settled over there. Unfortunately, there's always a negative. Once I moved the barricade and got set up here comes a guy that starts practically living there with Extremely Loud music going. I thought they were there for lunch but they stayed for hours. I moved the rig as far away from them as I could and tried to set myself up to where I had of view of the Mississippi River. Initially thought that I was going to watch barges go buy all day and I was so excited. I don't know what happened but there was no barge traffic here.

Just to go back a little bit whenever we were going across Mississippi, at Vicksburg, we were going to go north on the Great River Road. We're taking the long way back to Winston-Salem where my sister lives. We would start at Vicksburg and get off the River Road at Memphis. The Great River Road starts in New Orleans and goes to Minnesota.

During our time here we went to Mound Bayou which is a famous all-African-American city that was a planned community of successful Entraponeur-type folks. They decided if we can't change racism will just make our place and be off to ourselves and it was very successful. They were quite wealthy at the time but it had fizzled out by now. I wanted to go by and see the place as had I heard about on PBS.

After Mound Bayou, I thought we could swing by Emmett Till museum and get an understanding of what we might want to do when we visited in a few days and by then it was time to get on back to the casino. The guy with the really loud music finally left and we had a nice evening.

Fairly early the next morning maybe at 9 a.m. we had a security guard that was very hostile to us saying you absolutely cannot be here. I told her that we had had permission from the manager and described him and she said, oh that guy, so she backed off a little. She said regardless of what you were told you do have to move and I said well we were only planning on staying for one night anyway so thank you and we’ll be on our way.
