I heard someone say Cattail Cove was their favorite park so I had to go there and it was on the way. We were just following the Colorado river north so we took a look at all of the sites we could. At this park, most of the sites were just out in the very middle, and only a few were on the perimeter next to any vegetation. We ended up at a site that was at the end of a row so to the left of us was a retention pond. It was dried up but all the same, it allowed us some privacy and an area for Bert to explore. Bert was happy and that made us happy.

Rule number 9 just seemed like a shame you have to say that to people

It was nice to explore the area but beyond hiking and gawking at the beautiful water there wasn’t much to do it was because it was quite remote. One afternoon we went on a nice hike on a path that left out of the campground and went up a hill.

It followed the shape of the lakeshore. It was a sandy little path not too wide but the only thing was we went along the bank became steeper. At some point, it was a 60 or 100-ft drop and a narrow angle. After about half a mile or so it became just about creepy enough to where we said are we really having fun or on we kind of afraid of falling off the cliff. We sort of decided to just turn around and come back. We hadn’t accomplished that much steps wise so I tried to find a very meandering way back home. We wandered all through a canyon and a big wash then eventually I saw some pretty interesting rocks with hidden faces and took some pictures.

At each stop, we were thinking of potential places we might stay as hosts next winter just keeping our eyes open. We would try to make notes of which sites we might spend a few weeks in. Only a few qualified. Most all of them are too short or just in the middle so it was pretty but not really perfect for us.
