I saw The Valley of Fire State Park on Reserve America and wanted to visit there. I wanted to RV there but it was first come first serve so I also knew the place called Stewart's Landing would be a nice alternative. I saw good reviews about it and Stewarts are BLM boondocks. Valley of fire is a pay place so either would be fine. We went up the road for two hours and turned down a very long and winding road to the Valley of fire gate. We got to the entry they said Hi there, sorry but we have no vacancy. I said is it okay if I just ride in and look and they said it's okay. I don't think you're going to find anything. You might come by early each morning. They didn't charge me a day-use fee and I thought that was nice of them. I pulled over disconnected and did a ride-through without the camper. I looked around of course there were no sites. I hooked back up the camper and we headed up towards Stewart's landing.
We went to the end of the road out of The Valley of Fire and took a right. Several miles later we saw a sign and took a left. After a ¼ mile of asphalt, it became a very wiggly little dirt road. You really have no idea where you're going but you can boondock anywhere you want to down there with a view of the lake. We passed by what seemed like abandoned buildings as this area might have been a vacation spot once but it was ghostly looking these days. I dropped the camper as usually I do because it's too risky to wander off into the abyss. I saw 4 to 6 folks boondocking about but I wanted to ride around and look for the best site ever.
I found a cool little area where we would have a whole world of ourselves and a great view of the lake. I went back and got the camper and set up for a few nights. We settled in and one thing I started doing after the insurrection was to fly my tie-dye flag every place we went. I decided for the most part if you're in a white pickup truck they just assume you got to be a redneck. I got to thinking if I fly my freak flag they'll know that I'm liberal. They'll know that I am not pro-trump and I started doing that very much on purpose. I flew it everywhere we went so everybody would know how I feel and I ain't no conservative I am a hippie liberal.
I was able to orient the driver's side to the west everything was great. It was tough going up and down that wiggly little road and it was probably 20 miles to the closest town. The next day we went to the valley of fire and I took place to cool pictures. We did some hikes at Atlatl Rock Campground. It was quite nice in the winter or early spring. It was not so good in the summer when it was 120 degrees. At the end of our hike, we found ourselves at some rock formations that resembled the wave in Arizona.

I was surprised but we had internet and that made things easier. One time we were heading towards town to go to a Mexican place. I noticed on the right inside there was the beginnings of what looked like a little town. It was all kinds of RVs boondocking way up in a field and it was a little weird because somebody was selling pony rides. It’s all desert here and they have a temporary corral built. You can see a couple of ponies out there but what a ridiculous thing to do. The animals are out all day with no shade and just waiting all day for someone to buy the pony ride. I think it was a mean way to treat an animal.
We enjoyed being at Stewart's landing. Sometime in the future, we might come by again but you got to be a special person to be out there because it is so dang remote.
