Next, we went up the hill 15 miles to the one gas station town called Jacob's Lake and it's pretty cool. They had a food truck out front, a sit-down restaurant, a gas station and according to the internet, a reasonable amount of boondock type dispersed camping. We wanted to find out so we followed the prompts and went to Forest Road 248 turned right and just pulled over almost immediately into what I call a pull-through. Of course, all this is dispersed National Forest so it's not like there's any utilities there it's just a forest and it's just okay to be there. We saw some folks in an Airstream next door and although I'm sure they were wonderful I just wanted to be off to myself so we dropped the rig and took a look around. We went on down about another mile there was an amazing place called FR 248 F that was not as close to the main road where we had the whole world to ourselves. I had enough room to park the driver's side facing west the way I like it so all was just wonderful. I dove the truck back and got the rig. I threw my hand up and waved to the ladies in the Airstream and said hey I know it seems antisocial but we're going down a little further so sorry if it seems like we're unfriendly but this is a really cool site. One thing that happened was a little bit of a drag. I was finished leveling and no matter what I tried I couldn't get it level because it was such a hill so I had to hook up to the truck again move us a little bit. I had put 12 inches of leveling blocks under the front jacks just to get us level it took a little effort but I finally got it we settled in. Life was good Bert was happy we were happy and we had the world in our hands. We had been boondocking for quite some time now and we were kind of ready for some civilization, internet, restaurant.

Looking back it's hard to figure out how he managed but we had already been 3 days on 60 gallons of water and we need it to last at least 2 more, You can't take a lot or long showers but you can take a spritz shower. You can get clean with only 2 gallons or so. It was nice going to the sit-down restaurant, order and be served. It was kind of a special treat to us to just be back to the living so, of course, we went to the diner two nights in a row. It was a pleasure to be at Jacobs Lake and have the world at our fingertips. We didn't do that much but it was great to be boondocking near the north rim. The people at the restaurant were very friendly and I took some cool pictures of their Nostalgia Americana signs.

That was about to do it for us at this stop. I will say on the way out I took some pictures of some fire-charred, scarred areas. Although nature does its healing thing eventually it's hard to look at a place where thousands of acres burned.

I tried to capture it on film I don't know how well I did. It's a bit of a drag how nature can be so harsh sometimes when she decides to scorch the earth. Green comes back and it looks good later but it's hard to see it when it's a burned-out clear-cut.
