It was my job to know where to get fuel to where it would be easy in and easy out. Then I would find a place halfway to rest so near Lake Tahoe we found a place in Sparks to get diesel. Nearby I saw a place that had a big parking lot for a ski resort but until the summer there was nobody there and it was just an enormous place to Boondock for a while and have lunch like we did the day before.

We took care of all these errands and stayed for lunch. We ended up at the Dixon May Fair Fairgrounds all by a decent hour and it was July 4th. We got there and the gate was locked so I didn't know quite what to do. I parked in the vicinity and I was lucky enough to see a guy that was near the gate and I just said hi I'm not sure how to get in we don't have the key or a code or anything. They said they don’t make reservations when we called ahead but they said it should be fine. The guy opened the gate for us and as it turns out it wasn't padlocked it was just dummy locked so that went well enough. We pulled into the park and backed the rig at whatever site we felt like was as good as any there were 6 or 7 sites available. After we settled I went down to where the host was to pay my way. She said we are cash only so I had to go find an ATM and did and came back to get it done.
We had a pretty good collection of recycling that needed to be done and happily they had some barrels there that were labeled recycle here. I know that this part of the country doesn't recycle so it was a great opportunity to take care of that. We had our usual dinner out somewhere and it was a full hookup and was extremely hot so we settled in for the evening. Covid had killed the fireworks show this year. It was kind of funny how there was a ban on all fireworks and yet the town of townspeople have decided to violate this in a large way. I can kind of appreciate you know how people just wanted to celebrate the fourth and have fun with their fireworks but they took it all very seriously. Just behind our rig on the other side of the fairgrounds was a pretty normal residential neighborhood. It seemed like the guy right behind us maybe twenty-five feet away had decided to have a good time this 4th of July. They did so many fireworks. It started at 7 pm and it was non-stop and kind of loud so I figured they would wrap it up around 10 but honestly it went until about 11:30 which earns the bad manners award. Eventually, I did call the police and I didn't quite follow through. It was a recording and it made it sound like if you'd like to report a crime please leave a message and someone will call you back someday and I got to thinking oh my God never mind.
I'm not such a prude that I care that they're having a good time I just wish they could have wrapped it up or a little earlier and they did not seem to respect the 10 p.m. quiet rule. I had to get over it and move on but that was about the extent of our visit to Dixon May Fair. I was really glad they were there as it was just past Sacramento. Sacramento had a Fairgrounds also but it was pretty expensive and the reviews weren't that great but mostly it was like $75 which was brutal.
This will just about complete our 600 miles of hot traveling across the Nevada part and our next stop will be very cool at Olema like 70 degrees.
